Joshua Taylor Unit 10

 This screenshot shows the video log sheet from my production. This helps me organised the footage within premier pro when switching computers. The computers often loose the raw video files and need the exact files names and locations to be able to find them again. having this sheet allows me to quickly re-ingest the footage. 

 

This photograph shows my computer rendering the video to MP4 for ready to be uploaded to youtube. MP4 is a very good format for video because it is high quality but also compressed for storage. You can also see the small script that turns the computer off when the computer is finished. This allowed me to be away from the computer while it did its thing  This screenshot shows evidence of me uploading the video to YouTube and changing the upload settings. This will allow my audience to watch the video on the most amount of devices. 

 This photograph captures me directing one my extras (Mathew Smith). This was taken before the school scene, as we needed to prearrange the tables. The clapper board is also captured in this shot. This is used later on when we start filming to show when the camera is rolling.  

To conform to the disaster thriller genre I have framed, colour graded and lit my shots in a genre specific way. In shot one, I have used a dutch tilt shot framing an emergency broadcast, this is very conventional of the disaster genre. Where as the other 2 shots are very conventional of the thriller genre. Shot two features a close up shot, this conveys the characters emotions to the audience something that happens a lot in the thriller 'Handmaids Tale' (Where this shot was inspired). The last shot through the window hints to the audience that some one is watching him and this builds tension.  

This photograph shows evidence of me booking equipment to use with my production. Borrowing equipment allowed me to create a film with a much higher standard.

  For the post production stage of my film I had to pick a suitable editing software. I chose premier pro as my software of choice because it has limitless features. This would allow me to have the most amount of creative freedom in the editing process. I also wanted to use this software because it is industry standard. Learning this could help me in the future as this is what film companies use to edit video. Its only rival at the moment is Davici Resolve. 

This screenshot shows evidence of the titling used in the final film opening. I went for the Bebas-Neuo font for the film as it is a sleek looking sans-serif that gives a more professional yet punchy look.  I used key frames to make my titles transverse across the screen by changing the positioning and the opacity. 

This screenshots shows evidence of me changing the speed of a clip in the sequence of my film. I wanted to create a slightly lower speed to increase the cinematic effect of motion in the clip. This gives the film a more professional looking outcome.   

This screenshot shows evidence of me creating a custom transition in premier pro. As shown, I have used key frames to create the exact opacity fade I wanted. I could have used a preset transition for this shot but they didn't look right. Overall, using this method allowed me to have more creative freedom in the way shots transitioned to one and other.  

This screenshot showcases the uses of continuity editing within my film opening. In the film I have placed two horizontally moving shots together so when they merge, they are in perfect sync. This makes the film smoother for the viewer. This effect wasn't essential however I wanted my film to have lots of little creative elements to make it unique and interesting to watch.

This screenshot shows evidence of colour grading within my film opening. I have filmed using a cinelog profile, this means that the raw footage is flat. This lets me use every piece of data in the footage allowing me to get better colours and shadow details. To counter the footage's 'flatness' I have created a global curves adjustment as well as changing the hue of certain colours. I have gone for a slightly washed out look as this is common in conventional disaster thrillers.  

This screen shot shows evidence of sound design within the post processing stage of my film opening, Using premier pro I created multiple layers of sound effects to support the visual content on display. This allowed me to 'unleash my creativity' as I could use sound effects to create completely unique compositions for places on the time line like the intro for example. I have added sound effects that gradually increase in volume to add to the tension. This is conventional in the thriller genre.   

Premier pro is a really complicated piece of software and it is well know for that. That's why this screen shot shows evidence of me using YouTube to learn how to better use the software. This resource really helped me improve the quality of editing in my film as well as improving the speed of my workflow. Overall this massively increased the quality of my film through the use of advanced techniques like adjustment layers.  

This screen shot shows evidence of me importing footage into premier pro. I used the drag and drop method, dragging the footage from my use folder. This has helped me get all the footage I want in one place.  

This screen shot shows how I have organised my footage into folders. This helps me find the usable footage, speeding up the post production process. Due to the large amounts of footage of the same scene, having these folders really helped me pick out usable material and filter the out takes.

This screen shot shows the website I used to source my royalty free sound effects. I used this website because it contains a large variety of free sound effects that contain no copyright, allowing me to use them in my film with no restriction.   

Looking at this photograph of me near the abandoned house location. It shows the shoulder rig setup I have put together to film the handheld shots of my film. For most of the camera equipment I have been lucky enough to supply my self. However, the shoulder mount I have managed to borrow from school. This needed to be done in advance to make sure it was available. I am using a 7D-MK2 body with cine-log and a sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lens. For audio I have the RODE video mic pro in the shot gun position and with a high pass filter.   

This photograph shows the whole set of the pub scene in one image. I have used back lighting to create a dramatic effect. The large window behind my actors allows lots of natural light to flood into the shot. I found that I used bounce reflectors I could have my actors in front of a completely white window frame using over exposure. This allowed me get rid of any distracting background activity.  

This photograph was taken while on set at the pub location. The photograph shows the boom mic and pole I used to capture sound in the environment I was filming in. Having this setup allowed me to capture sound closer to the source leading to a higher quality outcome. This also meant that I needed someone to operate this when the shot wasn't stationary, creating an opening for an extra crew member.   

  This screenshot shows evidence of the different drafts of the film all the way until the final cut. Having drafts every time I edited the film allowed me to look back and improve what I had already created. This lets the audience view the version with the highest quality of editing due to all of the adjustments and tweaks.     

This production log shows the dates, actions and further activities of my production. This is evidence of my directors commentary, this describes each shot of my film to allow the audience to explore the meaning behind them. I created it using power point, then analysed and annotated it accordingly.
